The arrangement of gearbox internals prevents backdriving of the gearbox. Meaning no external power-off brakes are required to hold the load when power is removed.
Wide range of gear reduction ratios within a single stage increases power transmission efficiency and the self-locking technology reduces consumed power.
The design of the Synchronic Drive™ accomplishes these features without the use of traditional gears which removes many of the limitations normally associated with gearbox performance. Multiple synchronous rollers preloaded in a specific groove geometry provides zero backlash operation and increased torsional stiffness. The improved contact area of the rolling elements offers higher load capacity in comparison to traditional gear teeth and are easily tailorable to a wide range of gear ratios. The internal mechanical design self-locks to provide the added benefit of static and dynamic full-load holding power without the need for an additional power-off brake. The sum of these features means simpler motor control and less energy consumed during operation.
